 Has anyone ever heard of building an adobe home in South Texas? We hadn’t and when a client approached us about making his own adobe block and creating an ENERGY STAR home with a very rustic feel we didn’t really know what we were getting into. Now as the house is being dried in, I must say I think we should be able to shortly have documentation to put all the doubters and nay-sayers to rest. Even close to the Mexican border, where in mid February we are already having days that are reaching the high 80s, we are maintaining incredibly comfortable conditions inside the home with no HVAC system yet installed. We realize we have the brutal summer ahead and promise to post updates and a full case study of this amazing home. The homeowners put a lot of passion and hard work into this project and have already changed our opinions of the effectiveness of adobe in non-arid climates.
