Home Depot's Eco Options

Home Depot has finally formally announced the launch of the Canadaian born Eco Options program in their U.S. stores.  We first noticed Eco Options materials in our local Home Depot nearly a month ago and reported on it in our article: Home Depot's Eco Options .  In that article we commented on the irony of picking up an Eco Options pamphlet under the supernatural glow of the hundreds of incandescent bulbs in the Home Depot lighting department and asked our readers to join us in letting Home Depot know they were missing out on a big opportunity to practice what they preach.

Well, we have great news to report.  Home depot will be swapping out all of the lights in their lighting department and we'd like to thank all of you who helped us voice our concerns.  According to Home Depot's official press release announcing the launch of Eco Options in time for Earth Day, "To save energy in its stores, The Home Depot has begun the process of replacing the incandescent bulbs in its Lighting department displays with CFL bulbs. The bulb replacement is under way at 200 Home Depot stores and will be expanded to others throughout the year."

Though we know better than to think our humble site was any sort of deciding factor in this move, we wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone that no one individual and no single action is too small or insignificant to make a difference.  We also want to commend Home Depot for their responsiveness and leadership in promoting sustainabily at the corporate level. If you live near a Home Depot , be sure to visit on Earth Day, April 22 to pick up one of the 1 million free CFL's they'll be giving away as part of the Eco Options launch.
