Home Depot's Eco Options |
|
Home Depot has followed up their success as the 2006 ENERGY STAR retail partner of the year by finally introducing their Canadian Eco Options program to the U.S market. Eco Options information can now be found at stores across the country as well as on their U.S website. What is Eco Options? Eco Options takes the ENERGY STAR idea of label branding environmentally friendly products to the next level. Whereas ENERGY STAR focuses strictly on energy efficiency, Eco Options products will be identified as environmentally friendly in 5 different categories: Sustainable Forestry, Energy Efficiency, Clean Water, Clean Air and Healthy Home. Though we did not see any Eco Option branded products at our local Home Depot this past weekend, expect to see the labels roll out on qualified products throughout 2007. One ironic thing we did notice though is that with all of Home Depot’s talk of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, they are still using incandescent bulbs in their vast lighting section. Shouldn’t the ENERGY STAR retail partner of the year practice what they preach? We thought so and let them know. You should too – email Home Depot with this simple form and ask them to use compact fluorescents in their lighting department. |
