Title: lead poison (paint) in homes
Post by: Sandy on December 03, 2007, 11:05:38 AM
When remodeling to become sustainable in any way if the home your working on is built before 1980 don't forget to check for lead/lead content if disturbing more than 2x2 inch square of paint.  Lead poisoning in anyone could cost you more than lead abatement funds.

That is a great point, Sandy. Houses built before 1978 most likely were painted with lead based paints. Any paint that is peeling or cracking should be redone. Lead isn't something to mess around with.

Making sure there is no lead paint in a house is very important.  One of my cousins lived in an old house that had lead paint when she was a baby.  She ended up having a severe case of lead poisoning.
