Title: Farmer's Markets
Post by: PlasticTropicalFish on January 13, 2008, 07:38:47 PM
Here in Northern California we have wonderful opportunity to go green by buying our produce locally from farmer's markets.  This saves a lot of carbon pollution from having fruits and veggies trucked from Chile.

I agree.  Farmer's markets are a good way to get some very healthy fresh food. Plus it's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of chain supermarkets.

I agree, I have a friend who has a very large garden and sells her veggies at the farmer's market. There's nothing like the taste of fresh homegrown tomatoes. Plus farmers markets have more than just fresh foods. There's a wealth of knowlege in the sellers there.

I love my local farmers market!  Besides being better for the environment, I save money because the produce lasts sooo much longer!  Although I know it is better to eat it fresh, I have had lettuce that kept well for 2 weeks!

I also like getting out and seeing the people in my town.  I always see people I know, which makes me feel more connected to my community.

There is no doubt - farmers' markets are wonderful things, and, as a farmer who has sold produce at such markets, I can honestly say that farmer love sharing thier produce with the public.  Farmers' markets help the environment, the customer, and the farmer!

I wish I could take more advantage of farmer's market...during the winter months it is a lot harder to find it locally.  Does anyone have any tips or website for finding farmer's market in different local areas?

Farmer's Market is also quite cheap then the regular supermarket. But living in the city and all, its kind of hard to find access to these markets.
