Title: Do better building wraps exist?
Post by: Informed Building on February 23, 2007, 01:54:43 PM
We are starting to see building wraps used in more and more residential construction. How important is this? For those of you that use this product I am sure that you count on it to act as an efficient drainage barrier. As things always do technology is changing and a company called Vortec? now has a drainage barrier with multi-directional drainage abilities. Is this something that you as builders or homeowners think would be beneficial to you? Let us know how you feel!

Kafka, not sure if this will be enough, but a quick google search turned this up, and it should at least be a start. http://www.valeron.com/vortec/

I have used Tyvec many times and simply putting a solid piece of fabric between the sheeting and the siding seems to cut down on wind getting through.

In today's market there are synthetic materials that protect the home from exterior water penetration and in addition they resist air infiltration (critical for preventing moist air in hot humid climate from entering the cool air conditioned house) while allowing moisture from inside the house to escape.
Average family produces about 70 pounds of moisture daily - need to get it out! Don't make your house completely air tight.
