My daughter lives in France, a very green nation. They do not have bags, paper or plastic at their stores. In fact, they are not allowed. Reusuable bags are the only way to cart your groceries home. I brought several back with me after a visit and I love them!! Durable, useful for all types of things. My simple contributaion to Paper or Plastic is now Neither!

Biomass can be a lucrative addition, not solution, in U.S. green energy development. One source of biomass I find efficient and commendable is plant waste. Examples are wood production waste (from paper and saw mills) and landscaping waste (such as grass, leaves, tree trimmings, dead shrubs, etc.) This form of biomass is cheap and available, and it gets used instead of being sent to the landfill.

I wish I could take more advantage of farmer's market...during the winter months it is a lot harder to find it locally. Does anyone have any tips or website for finding farmer's market in different local areas?

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of using hay bales for the walls of a timber framed building, the insulation properties are very good though apparently they are difficult to work with so id appreciate any tips before heading down that route.

I live in apartment and during the summer I grow tomato plants by the front porch and grow several different herbs in pots. We involve kids and make it a fun family project. We save money on grocery and we eat great fresh organic food! During the winter I have some herbs in pots inside the house by the kitchen window sill.

I am happy to see more and more grocers offering reusable canvas shopping bags, too. I heard from someone who used to work at Whole Foods that often times those plastic shopping bags collected at the recycle bins found at Whole Foods Stores goes directly to dumpster. Shocking, isn't it? At least by reusing the canvas shopping bag, we are in charge of minimizing the waste and making sure that the bags are being reused!
