We are building a speck house to sell.  We now have the house standing and we are going to be installing the roof shingles tomorrow.  Is it too late to start the process of getting an energy star rating for the home?

The answer to your question really depends on one thing - whether or not
you have the sheet rock up in your speck home.  An energy rater has to
inspect the home's insulation prior to sheet rock insulation in order to
certify a home as ENERGY STAR.  However, we highly recommend getting a
rater involved even earlier if possible.  Especially with the first ENERGY
STAR homes you build, a rater can be extremely valuable in providing
guidance as early as the design phase to insure the home passes
inspection.

We're currently working on adding a feature to our site so that you can
search for a rater by zip code -- however, in the mean time, your best bet would be
the below link:

http://www.resnet.us/directory/raters.aspx

This will allow you to search for a rater by state.

You can also go to your local co-op to find the energy star rater for your area, normally these are more commonly found in rural areas, but if you have problems, your local city govt can help you out.
