Can you get tax credits for putting vinyl siding on your house?

Unfortunately, the current federal tax credits do not cover any vinyl siding related expenses.
Basically the tax credits are limited to windows, doors, roofs, insulation and A/C's.  Let's hope, however, that a more expanded energy bill is passed soon to replace the current one which expires at year end.

I don't understand why they would give a credit for vinyl siding.  I would think it wouldn't be that great for the environment considering if it is replaced it could end up in a landfill (unless it can be recycled?)  What would the benefits be to putting vinyl siding on a house?
